Sylvia Escobar was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. She graduated from PSJA High School and received a BS in Biology from Trinity University, MS in Computer Science and MEd in Educational Leadership both from the University of Texas – Pan American. Serving twenty years in education, Sylvia has taught math, technology and engineering and been a campus Director and Assistant Principal focusing on STEM and early college initiatives. She is currently a STEM / Learning Resources Integration Specialist at the Region One Education Service Center in Edinburg, Texas, where she mainly delivers teacher professional development and student camps in the areas of coding, robotics, engineering, PBL, and everything else STEM. Sylvia is passionate about championing equality, and especially gender equality, in STEM education. With her background in Computer Science, she has led several Computer Science education initiatives for both the teachers and students of Region One. Outside of the workplace, Sylvia is a animal lover and animal rights advocate, a gamer, and an avid movie buff.
